LNG 187: INternational Experience- El Salvador
Join Campus Ministry, Student Development, the International Office, and Alumni Affairs for our 5th annual service program in San Salvador, the capital city of the Central American country El Salvador. ODU students, faculty, staff and alumni will work with the Maryknoll Lay Missioners to help two of the impoverished rural communities outside of San Salvador. Previous service projects include assisting with a children's feeding program, a pre-kindergarten program, a program to teach computer skills, a community garden, a women's group, a children's medical clinic, and also some ongoing construction projects to add a school and library to these communities. Our proposed projects for 2013 are assisting with the construction of a house and working in an orphanage.
In addition to our service projects, we will also be able to explore the rich culture and Catholic history of El Salvador. Each day will end with time to reflect on our experiences of the day. We will be staying in a retreat center. There will two participants per room with their own bathroom. The retreat center also has a chapel and gathering spaces. It is located high above the rest of the city of San Salvador which will provide amazing views of the city.
Students will have the option of enrolling in a one credit course. If you wish to enroll, please let the International Office know. View the syllabus.
