Homelessness Council Director to Speak at ODU
Philip F. Mangano to Speak on the Abolition of Homelessness
September 27, 2002
Philip F. Mangano, Executive Director of the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (ICH) spoke at Ohio Dominican University on Thursday, Oct. 3 in Wehrle Hall.
The presentation was held in the Werhle Hall Gallery as part of the University's Life of the Mind Series.
Ohio Dominican instituted the Life of the Mind Series in order to offer the community a broader view on local, national and global issues, such as homelessness. Mangano's experiences and knowledge about homelessness will increase the community's understanding of the issue as well as its desire to become involved.
The ICH is a part of the Domestic Policy Council within the Executive Office of the President and is responsible for the coordination of 15 federal agencies in their response to reduce and end homelessness. President Bush appointed Mangano to lead the ICH in March, 2002.
Prior to his appointment to the ICH, Mangano was the founding Executive Director of the Massachusetts Housing and Shelter Alliance (MHSA), a statewide coalition of 80 agencies, which operate over 200 programs.
In addition, Mangano participated in the creation and development of a social justice group in Los Angeles and Social Action Ministries of Greater Boston and served as a full time volunteer for several years on St. Anthony's breadline in downtown Boston.
"As a Catholic University that puts great value in contributing to the community, Ohio Dominican is delighted that Mr. Mangano will visit our campus," said Ohio Dominican President Dr. Jack Calareso.
