Ohio Dominican Announces Battelle Scholars

COLUMBUS, OHIO - Ohio Dominican University has awarded Battelle Scholarships to incoming freshmen Marci McAndrews and Asia Kelley-Mathews.
The Battelle Scholarship is awarded annually to new freshman from the Central Ohio area who possess unusual strengths and promise for the field in which he/she studies; the potential for leadership is important. The scholarship is renewable for four years. The Battelle Scholars Program was established to recognize outstanding students who possess the potential for leadership and intellectual promise, as demonstrated by special achievements in a particular field of study or activity. Scholarship recipients are sensitive to the needs of others; have integrity and a commitment to high personal values; and the ability to motivate and work with others while providing support and direction. To be eligible, students must be entering freshmen at an undergraduate college or university in Franklin or contiguous counties, and a resident of one of those counties.

McAndrews is a gradute of William V. Fisher Catholic High School in Lancaster, OH, where she received numerous academic awards. She was the secretary of the National Honor Society, a member of the drama and Spanish clubs, and a peer advocate. A member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, she also was co-captain of the tennis team; played on the basketball and track teams; and was a member of the drill team. In addition to being an award-winning member of 4-H and a volunteer, she volunteered at Children's Hospital, the Fairfield Center for Disabilities and Habitat for Humanity. She plans on majoring in Education at Ohio Dominican.

Kelley-Mathews graduated from Hamilton High School in Columbus where she was a member of the National Honor Society, the Color Guard, the track and field team, D.E.C.A., and the Spanish Club. She is listed in the Who's Who Among America's High School Students and served on the United States Achievement Academy for National Minority Leadership and International Foreign Language. In her spare time, Kelley-Mathews volunteered as a tutor at an elementary school. In addition, she was a D.A.R.E. role model. Kelley-Mathews plans to major in Biology with a pre-med track at ODU. |
