Master of Arts in Theology Offers Ministry Seminars

COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio Dominican University's Master of Arts in Theology program will offer three non-credit master's level ministry seminars for those who wish to enrich their ministerial skills and knowledge.

The special topic seminars are open to the general pubic (non-matriculating students). Each seminar meets a total of nine hours over a three-day period. The cost of each seminar is $199. All sessions will be held in Erskine Hall on Ohio Dominican's main campus at 1216 Sunbury Road. Room locations will be given at the time of registration.

"Since Ohio Dominican's M.A. in Theology program began in January 2002, we've been looking for ways to collaborate with all who are active in the ministry," said Dr. Barbara Finan, director of the program. "These seminars are a first step in that effort."

Upon completion of a seminar, participants will be given a certificate of completion, which they may use to apply for continuing education units from their employers.

Adult Catechesis focuses on the principles and practices of catechesis as they apply to adults in a parish setting. Mary Pat Mulligan will lead the seminar. Mulligan is Professor Emerita at the Pontifical College Josephinum and is currently a doctoral candidate in Systematic Theology. She has a M.A. in Theology from the Pontifical College Josephinum, and a B.S. in Education from Carlow College.

Adult Catechesis will be held on Thursday, June 12 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.; on Saturday, June 14 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.; and on Thursday, June 19 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

"Pastoral Care: Assessment & Intervention" is designed to provide guidance in implementing a pastoral care approach in parish ministry. It covers the principles guiding the appropriate assessment of behavior patterns, and discussion of intervention options and processes. Sharon Reed, Director of Counseling at Ohio Dominican University, will instruct the course. Reed has a M.Ed. in Counseling from Cleveland State University, and a B.S. in Education from the University of Dayton. -more- Ministry Seminars/2 The

Pastoral Care: Assessment & Intervention seminar will be offered on Thursday, July 10 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.; Saturday, July 12 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.; and Thursday, July 17 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Family Dynamics explores the dynamics of personal growth within diverse family systems, and the incorporation of family perspectives within parish life. Stephanie Jenemann, Director of the Family Life Office of the Diocese of Columbus, will lead the seminar. She has a M.A. in Pastoral Family Studies from the College of Mt. St. Joseph and a B.S. in Social Studies/Education from Marietta College. She also earned a certificate in pastoral ministry from Loyola University.

The Family Dynamics seminar will meet on Thursday, July 24 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.; Saturday, July 26 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.; and Thursday, July 31 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Ohio Dominican's Master of Arts in Theology program is a holistic course of study that helps people develop the personal and professional skills needed for effective church ministry. Although focused on the needs of current and future lay ministers in the Catholic Church, the program is open to non-Catholics, ordained ministers and students preparing for doctoral study in theology.
