ODU Announces Arts & Events Schedule for 2004-2005

COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio Dominican University will offer a variety of unique exhibits and
events for 2004-2005. All events are free and open to the public.
Ellen Goodman, Pulitzer Prize Winner October 21, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. in The Little
Theatre, Erskine Hall Ohio Dominican University is proud to announce Pulitzer Prize
winning journalist Ellen Goodman as part of its Presidential Lecture Series. Goodman,
an innovative force in American journalism, is one of the two most syndicated
columnists in the U.S. Her commentaries, which focus on the tumult of social change
and its impact on families, appear in more than 450 newspapers.
The event is free and open to the public, but requires tickets due to limited
seating. Free parking is available in the Visitor's Lot west of Sunbury Road.

the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Ohio Dominican University's Wehrle Gallery is open Monday through Friday,
10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays, noon to 4:00 p.m. Wehrle
Gallery is located in Wehrle Hall on Ohio Dominican's main campus, 1216 Sunbury Rd.
Inherent Offerings: New Work by Maureen Fahy
September 12 - October 22, 2004
Opening Reception: Sunday, September 12, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
In her work, Inherent Offerings, Maureen Fahy weaves the use of found objects,
symbolism, and spirituality into archetypal assemblages -- a metaphoric exploration
of one's inherent offerings. "Inherent" is defined as the existence of something
as a permanent and inseparable element, quality, or attribute. Fahy's series
expresses the need to return to honor and build on one's own spiritual foundation
as a way to bring balance, awareness, and community back into daily practice.
Hiroshi Hayakawa - New Figurative Work: A Dialogue of Photography, Time,
and Material
October 31 - December 17, 2004
Opening Reception: Sunday, October 31 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
This exhibition documents Hiroshi Hayakawa's exploration of the medium of the
photographic process. His works, which use the female form as subject and sheet
metal as the printing ground, express the beauty of transient nature and processes.
The Ohio Dominican University Permanent Collection
December 20, 2004 - April 24, 2005
Ohio Dominican University's Permanent Collection is an impressive
compilation of more than 150 oil paintings, watercolors, serigraphs
and posters donated by art benefactors Joe Kenefick and John Pappas.
Ohio Dominican University Senior Thesis Exhibition
May 1 - 21, 2004
Opening Reception: Sunday, May 1, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
As a culmination of their studies, ODU seniors select, research, produce,
and exhibit an individual project related to the goals of their specific major
and individual interests.
Ohio Dominican's Life of the Mind Series provides occasions for the
community to gather to reflect upon the ideas and events that shape
our culture. Sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs and the Humanities
Program, the series features artists, musicians, intellectuals, and critics
who contribute to the life of the mind.
The Pope's Latinist
August 31, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. in Wehrle Gallery, Wehrle Hall
Ohio Dominican University is proud to present Reverend Reggie Foster,
the Pope's Latinist. Reverend Foster, a Camelite priest famous for his
Latin school in Rome, lives at the Vatican.
Why I Believe in God
October 6, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. in Wehrle Gallery, Wehrle Hall
Reverend Norris Clark, a world renowned scholar of Aquinas, will
present his lecture justifying his belief in God.
Seraphin Trio (Columbus Symphony Orchestra Chamber group)
February 23, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. in Wehrle Gallery, Wehrle Hall
The Seraphin Trio features David Edge on violin, Steve Wedell on
viola and Richard Bell on cello. All members of the Columbus Symphony
Orchestra, they formed the trio in 1985. For the past 15 years, they have
performed as part of Central Ohio's Chamber Music Series, regularly appearing
at a number of Midwestern colleges.
On American Art
March 23, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. in Wehrle Gallery, Wehrle Hall
Dr. Mark Cole, Curator of American Art at the Columbus Museum of Art,
will elaborate on his view of art and its significant impact.
Catherine of Siena Lecture
April 28, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. in Wehrle Gallery, Wehrle Hall
Dr. Perry Cahall, ODU Professor of Theology, presents the annual St. Catherine of Siena Lecture.
