ODU Expands Academic Resource Center
August 11, 2004
COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio Dominican University has expanded its Academic Resource
Center (formally the Academic Center) to meet the demands of the university's
continually growing student body.
The Academic Resource Center, located on the third floor of the Spangler Learning
Center, provides students with support and assistance through workshops, learning labs
and reference materials. In addition, student tutors provide one-on-one assistance in
English, reading, study skills, humanities, mathematics and foreign languages. The
Center employs writing and math tutors six days a week to ensure students are able to
get the help they need during a time that fits their schedule.
In response to ODU's continually growing student body, the writing desk, formerly
located in the heart of the Center, has been relocated into its own room and dubbed
The Write Place. Among the various changes that have occurred, The Write Place
and the Math Space have remained on the second floor of the Spangler Learning Center,
while the Academic Resource Center has relocated to the third floor.
The Center enlisted ODU student Farah Khan to paint a mural on the back wall of The
Write Place. The mural invokes graphic imagery related to each of the academic divisions
of the university.
"Our hope is to create an atmosphere that reflects our holistic approach to education,
nurturing student appreciation of the aesthetic as well as enhancing intellectual
development," said Amy Spencer, Director of the Academic Resource Center.
The Academic Resource Center is open Monday thru Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 10 p.m.;
Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00p.m. Contact the
