December 13 , 2004
COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio Dominican University is pleased to announce that Hilliard
resident Cory Righter has been awarded the Battelle Scholarship from Ohio Dominican
University.
The scholarship is valued at $5,000 a year and is renewable for four years
to equal a total of $20,000.
The Battelle Scholars Program was established in 1977 as a means of assisting
Central Ohio colleges and universities in recognizing outstanding students who
possess potential for leadership and intellectual promise. The scholarship is
awarded to one entering freshman each year.
"I am really enjoying attending ODU, and I am grateful this scholarship is
allowing me to do that," said Righter. "It is an honor to have been chosen for
the scholarship, and I am thankful for Battelle's generosity."
A Hilliard Darby graduate, Righter was a four-sport athlete in high school,
competing in softball, basketball, soccer and track. She was captain of both her
JV soccer team and her freshman basketball team. Righter was a member of both
Concert and Symphonic Choir as well. She served on the Student Athletic Council and
the Student Senate, functioning as Secretary on the Student Senate her senior year.
Outside of school, Righter was captain of her Club Soccer team and a member of the
Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She also participated in a Youth Group/Bible Study
at her local church.
Righter has been recognized with several honors and awards throughout her high
school career. They include an induction into the National Honor Society, Academic
and Athletic Letters, the OCC Scholar Athlete Award, the Top-Ten Class Ranking,
Sportsmanship Award, Buckeye Girls' State Representative, Soccer MVP and numerous
Choir Awards.
Her leadership has continued into her university experience, as Righter now
plays soccer, is an Admissions Ambassador and a member of the Honors Program at
Ohio Dominican.
She is also a member of the Bible Study at Vineyard Church.
Righter is the daughter of Candace and Steven Righter.
