ODU Adds Defensive Coordinator to Football Coaching Staff

April 30, 2004

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Dominican University head football coach Dale Carlson has hired former Robert Morris University assistant coach Joe Nemith as the Panthers' new assistant head football coach and defensive coordinator. Chris Oliver has also been named offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator.

"I am excited to be working with Joe once again," said Carlson. "Joe brings a lot of great qualities, he is very intense on the football field, he is a stickler for details, and he knows how to develop and execute a game plan. More importantly, he cares about the total development of the student-athlete. His enthusiasm will electrify our players and coaching staff."

Nemith was the linebacker and special teams coach and recruiting coordinator at Robert Morris from 2002-04, under head coach Joe Walton.

Prior to Robert Morris, Nemith spent two seasons on the Tri-State University coaching staff, serving as defensive coordinator from 2000-02 under current Panther head coach Dale Carlson. Nemith helped the Thunder to a Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) title and a berth in the NAIA National Championship Series in 2001. In 2000, Nemith's defense ranked 15th in the nation in total team defense and he was selected MSFA Assistant Coach of the Year. During his two-year span at TSU, five defensive players earned All-American honors.

"I am extremely thrilled to be able to work once again with Coach Carlson," commented Nemith. "To be able to work with a coach who is passionate about working with student-athletes made this an attractive opportunity. Coach Carlson is a winner and a true friend and the challenge of starting a football program will provide valuable experience."

Nemith launched his coaching career as a graduate assistant at The University of Akron from 1998-2000, where he assisted with the defensive line and defensive backs.

A 1997 Malone College graduate, Nemith was a three-year starter at safety for the Pioneers and earned All-MSFA honors in 1995 and 1996. He earned his bachelors degree in communications/public relations and is finishing his master's degree in communications from The University of Akron.

Nemith and his wife, Stacey, reside in Pickerington, Ohio.

Oliver, who is in his first season with the Black & Gold, was previously a student assistant at The Ohio State University, where he worked in the recruiting office and coached tight ends and the offensive line under head football coach Jim Tressel. Oliver will coach the Panther offensive line and will be the recruiting coordinator.

"Chris was the first assistant hired for the Panther football program," commented Carlson. "My goal in hiring coaches is to find quality individuals with a high degree of character and a great work ethic. Chris has shown both and will do a great job developing our offensive line and coordinating our recruiting efforts." Oliver attended Blanchester High School in Blanchester, Ohio, where he was a two-year starter at quarterback, kicker and punter. He served as captain of the football team his senior year.

Oliver was a two-time Kenton Trace Conference First Team Academic selection. During his senior season, he led the Greater Cincinnati area with a 42.3 yard punting average.

A 2003 graduate of The Ohio State University, Oliver earned a bachelor's degree in education while graduating cum laude. Oliver and his wife, Wendy, reside in Westerville.
