Unique Humanities Course Offered for Spring 2005
August 11, 2004
COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio Dominican University will offer a unique four-credit Humanities
course in Spring 2005.
The course, HUM 348 Urban Connections: Columbus Behind the Scenes,
allows students to examine a wide variety of established and emerging institutions
in Columbus through weekly-guided field trips, background readings and related assignments.
In addition to being a "hands-on" learning environment, this course is considered
a Humanities Thematic, allowing for the fulfillment of one of the two thematic
requirements. Thematic courses address humanistic considerations of issues relating
to the human condition.
Through this course, students will study and tour many important Columbus
institutions such as Nationwide Arena, the Columbus Museum of Art, Cameron Mitchell
Restaurants, Pilot Dogs for the Blind, Mayor Coleman's office in City Hall, the Ohio
Statehouse, and other relevant sites.
"In addition to providing in-depth information about local organizations, this
course introduces students to many interesting internships, jobs, and volunteer
opportunities in the Columbus community that relate to their major fields of study,"
said education professor Jill Dardig, Ed.D.
The course will be held in the Spring on Thursdays from 12:00 to 3:50 p.m.,
and is only offered every other year. The prerequisites for this course are ENG 110
and 111; and HUM 110 and 210. For more information, contact Dr. Dardig at 614-251-4624
