Ministry Seminar on Evangelization Offered by ODU's MA Theology Program
September 24, 2004
COLUMBUS - Ohio Dominican University's Master of Arts in Theology program will
offer a non-credit master's level ministry seminar on Evangelization for those who
wish to enrich their ministerial skills and knowledge. This special topic seminar
is open to the general pubic (non-matriculating students).
The seminar meets a total of nine hours over a three-day period. The cost of the
seminar is $100 for non-matriculating participants. All sessions will be held in Erskine
Hall on Ohio Dominican's main campus at 1216 Sunbury Road.
Upon completion of the seminar, participants will be given a certificate of completion,
which they may use to apply for continuing education units from their employers. The
seminar, entitled "Theological Principles for Evangelization", is inspired by these
words of Pope Paul VI: "There is a profound link between Christ, the Church, and
evangelization" (Evangelii Nuntiandi 16; 1975).
Evangelization has many facets both within the Church and beyond the Church. By
examining Church documents primarily, this short course will focus on the theological
principles behind Catholic evangelization and its relevance for contemporary society.
The topic is pertinent for all persons concerned about the mission of the Church, as
well as those specifically involved in RCIA, catechesis, or general parish ministry.
Mary Pat Mulligan will lead the seminar. Mulligan is Professor Emerita at the
Pontifical College Josephinum and is currently a doctoral candidate in Systematic
Theology at Duquesne University. She has a M.A. in Theology from the Pontifical
College Josephinum, and a B.S. in Education from Carlow College.
"Theological Principles for Evangelization" will be held on Thursday, October 7
from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.; on Saturday, October 9 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.; and on
Thursday, October 14 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Registrations are requested by Friday,
October 1.
