ODU's Model United Nations Gives Outstanding Performance
at First Conference

COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio Dominican University's newly formed Model United Nations
team competed in their first conference, the XI LEIMUN Conference, on October 30
and won the Small School Outstanding Delegation Award and several delegates won
individual awards.
Senior delegate Ron Scheib, a resident of Pickerington (43147) represented the
nation of Palestine in the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and won an
Excellent Award for the work he did on the agenda topics of: the situation in Iraq,
the rights of Palestinian People, and Islamic minorities in Non-Muslim Countries.
Ohio Dominican student delegate Amanda Waluzak of Columbus (43214) won the
Prestigious President's Gavel for her portrayal of The Democratic Republic of the
Congo in the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM). She spoke about
the situation in Sudan, Biotechnology and the rights of the child.
Also contributing to ODU's success was Chad Knox of Williamsport, also a member
of SOCHUM who represented Macedonia, and Norris Williams, from Indianapolis, IN, who
portrayed Algeria in a Security Council that dealt with current world issues.
