Ohio Dominican "Rocks the Vote"
September 10 , 2004
COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio Dominican University students will join with WBNS 10-TV
to get the vote out on campus, September 13.
The event, called "Rock the Vote," is part of a non-partisan campaign
designed to educate students about candidates, the voting process and issues
at the federal, state, local and university level. Students will also be given
the opportunity to register to vote.
"Rock the Vote" is part of a community initiative of WBNS-10TV that was
created to increase voting among college aged students. Statistics show that
only 33% of citizens 18 to 24 years old are voting. The program aims to raise
that percentage and foster voter awareness.
"Rock the Vote" will take place on Monday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m. on
Ohio Dominican's main campus. The event will be held in The Underground,
located on the lower level of Fitzpatrick Hall, 1216 Sunbury Road.
"The Presidential candidates talk about the war in Iraq, the rising cost
of college education, and the lack of jobs in this country. Students ages 18
to 24 are deeply impacted in these areas, yet they are largely absent from the
voting process in this country," said Ohio Dominican University junior Jim
Johnston. "We must work towards greater participation in our democracy. This
generation of college students must have a voice in the government of the
nation that they will one day inherit."
