McConnell to Address Ohio Dominican Winter Commencement

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Ohio Dominican University will hold its 84th commencement exercise at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2005. Approximately 230 students will have degrees conferred upon them as they are joined by hundreds of family and friends in Alumni Hall.
Donald P. McConnell, Corporate Senior Vice President of Battelle and Chairman of ODU’s Board of Trustees, will deliver the commencement address.
With headquarters in Columbus, Battelle is a global science and technology enterprise that develops and commercializes technology and manages laboratories for government customers. Battelle conducts $2.7 billion in annual research and development.
McConnell also serves as Battelle’s Chief Operating Officer for Laboratory Operations with responsibility for operational oversight of the four National Labs, as well as the contract research conducted by Battelle for the Department of Energy. He joined Battelle from the U.S. Department of Transportation, where he served as a senior program manager at its Volte National Transportation Systems Center in Cambridge, Mass. McConnell holds a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering and a master’s degree in Engineering Mechanics from New York University.
During the ceremony, McConnell will receive an honorary degree, Doctor of Public Service.
Nancy Wolfe Lane will also receive an honorary degree during the commencement ceremony. Wolfe Lane is a charter member of the Phoenix Society of Ohio Dominican University, an organization that provides opportunities for ODU alumni and friends to share experiences, discover culture, and promote lifelong learning outside the classroom. A graduate of Bryn Mawr College and former trustee of Ohio Dominican, she is being recognized for her distinguished service on the board and her commitment and dedication to the Greater Columbus area through service on various boards and committees, including the Ohio Historical Society, Wolfe Associates, Wolfe Enterprises, Agricultural Lands, Bryn Mawr College and Hope College.
During the ceremony Ms. Wolfe Lane will receive an honorary degree, Doctor of Humane Letters.
