Dominican Friar to Speak at ODU

COLUMBUS, OH – Richard Schenk, O.P., a Dominican friar, scholar and author, California province, will speak at Ohio Dominican University as part of the University’s Dominican Life of the Mind Series. His lecture, entitled The Life of Study and the Common Good, will be presented on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. in the Colonial Room of Sansbury Hall, located on ODU’s main campus, 1216 Sunbury Road.
Sponsored by ODU’s Center for Dominican Studies, the Dominican Life of the Mind Series provides occasions for the community to gather to reflect upon the ideas and events that shape our culture.
Fr. Schenk is the former director of the Intercultural Forum for Studies in Faith and Culture, the scholarly branch of the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center in Washington, D.C. A priest of the Western (California) province of the Order of Preachers, he has lectured and taught extensively throughout the United States and Europe and is currently a faculty member of the Dominican School of Philosophy and Technology and the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley (CA). Fr..Schenk is the author of numerous publications on theological and philosophical anthropology, medieval theology, and ecumenical and interreligious dialogue.
He earned a doctorate of Theology from the University of Munich ( Germany). In 2004, the Dominican Order designated Fr. Schenk a Master of Sacred Theology, the highest honorary distinction the Dominican Order can bestow upon a friar for his academic work.
