Ohio Dominican Joins Nationwide Effort for Make A Difference Day ; Plans Fall Food Drive

COLUMBUS, OH – Ohio Dominican University will be joining the nationwide effort by participating in Make a Difference Day. Organizations to benefit from this endeavor include Shepherd’s Corner,the YWCA Family Center, Krumm Park, St. Mary of the Springs’ Mohun Health Care Center, and the Franklin County Animal Shelter.
In a school-wide initiative, ODU students, faculty, staff and alumni will volunteer their time and effort in various activities on Saturday, October 21. Make a Difference Day also coincides with Ohio Dominican’s Fall Food Drive.
Activities will include visiting with the retired sisters, brothers and diocesan priests at Mohun Health Care Center; working with animals and building a cob hut at Shepherd’s Corner; doing arts and crafts with children and mothers at the YWCA Family Center; picking up trash at Krumm Park; and working with dogs at the Franklin County Animal Shelter.
Make a Difference Day is a national, annual event created by USA WEEKEND Magazine with the goal of encouraging people to spend a day helping someone else. “Neighbors helping neighbors,” is the concept. Each year millions participate in volunteer projects across the nation.
During the month of October, there are also a number of activities planned for the university’s Fall Food Drive, with all proceeds going to St. Stephan’s Community House.
- Drop boxes will be placed in Erskine, Hamilton and Sansbury Halls for donations.
- The Athletic Department will accept canned food items for admission into the home football game against Geneva College on Saturday, October 28 at 12:30 p.m. in Panther Stadium. Those bringing four cans will be admitted free.
- Spangler Library will accept canned food items as payment for overdue library fines.
- Students will have the opportunity to donate a meal from their meal plans and participate in the Hunger Banquet, where they can learn more about world hunger.
