COLUMBUS, OH – Ohio Dominican University’s Center for Dominican Studies will offer a variety of events during the 2007-2008 season. Most events are free and open to the public but registration is required.
Dominican Life of the Mind Series Lectures
The Center for Dominican Studies’ Dominican Life of the Mind Series provides occasions for the community to gather to reflect upon the ideas and events that shape our culture. The series features artists, musicians, intellectuals and critics who contribute to the life of the mind.

Dominican Sister Eileen Gannon is the United Nations Representative of the Dominican Order in the U.S. and is a member of the Sparkhill, New York Dominican Congregation. Through her work in the U.N., she represents the Dominican family whose members live and work in more than 100 countries throughout the world. Registration is required*

Dominican Sister Catherine Hilkert, O.P., is a prolific author and professor of Theology at the University of Notre Dame. She specializes in contemporary systematic theology with particular interest in theological anthropology. She is immediate past president of the Catholic Theological Society of America. The symposium will engage a variety of theologians and historians including The Most Reverend James A. Griffin, Fr. Bertrand A. Buby, Director of the International Research Institute, University of Dayton, Sr. Thoma Swanson, O.P. artist, scholar and former Peruvian missionary and Sr. M. Jean Frist, of the University of Dayton. The panel will address topics including: Mary in the Scriptures, Mary in the Visual Arts, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and Reading Magisterial documents about Mary. Fr. Marchionda is a Dominican priest, preacher, composer, conductor, singer and woodwind instrumentalist. He has composed over 200 sacred music compositions. Angotti brings his musical talents as a published composer for World Library Publications. Registration is required*.

Boguslawski is a Dominican friar of the Eastern Province of the Order of Preachers. He has served as rector/president of Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit; vice president and academic dean of the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. He currently serves as director of the John Paul Cultural Center in Washington, D.C. Registration is required*.
Featuring Still Point Theatre Collective

Still Point’s fulltime mission is to portray modern spiritual heroes. The Hermit in New York, wrought from the journals of Thomas Merton, is the story of a contemporary man of faith practicing the fourth century tradition of eremitism, while a participant in the crowded, modern world. Reservations are required for this performance. The performance is free, but an in-kind donation will be asked for at the door. Registration is required*.
Two other series open to the public are the Truth Seekers Series and The Dominican Conversation Circles. These luncheon/dinner events will feature speakers on various topics relevant to the church, culture and society.

Featuring: Fr. Stephen Fitzhenry, O.P. STL.Fr. Fitzhenry started his work as a missionary in the Diocese of Multan, Pakistan, in 1960 and became the Vicar Provincial there from 1972-1980. Currently, he is chaplain for the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs. Fr. Fitzhenry has published widely for a variety of journals including Spiritual Life. Registration is required.
