Ohio Dominican University Welcomes Author Russell Poole
March 15, 2007
COLUMBUS, OH – Ohio Dominican University is pleased to present Russell Poole, author of America’s Road, as the featured speaker for the University’s annual Monsignor Leonard J. Fick Literary Brunch on Sunday, April 22, 2007 from noon to 2:00 p.m. The brunch, which honors the late Ohio Dominican faculty member, will be in the Colonial Room of Sansbury Hall on ODU’s main campus, 1216 Sunbury Road.
A native of Frederick, Maryland, Poole’s book, "America's Road: A Photographic Journey Across the National Road from Baltimore to East St. Louis,” is designed as a visual tour of the entire road as it would be seen by someone traveling east to west.
Poole dedicated six years of his life to drive and photograph the entire route of the historic National Road as it exists today. Poole lives in Frederick with his wife, artist Cynthia Poole.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Monsignor Leonard Fick Scholarship Fund for Ohio Dominican University students majoring in English. The late Monsignor Fick touched the lives of hundreds of young people by instilling in them a love of literature that endures a lifetime. He taught at Ohio Dominican from 1948 to 1969.
The brunch begins at noon and will be preceded by a Memorial Mass celebrated by Father John Boll in Christ the King Chapel at 11:00 a.m. The Mass and literary event are open to the public. The cost for the Literary Event is $20 for adults and $10 for students.
