University of Notre Dame Professor Visits ODU Campus to Present on Voices of Women Today

Catherine of SienaOhio Dominican University’s (ODU) Center for Dominican Studies presents Sr. Mary Catherine Hilkert O.P., Professor of Theology from University of Notre Dame who will speak on ODU’s main campus, 1216 Sunbury Road, on April 11, 2008 at 7 p.m. in Sansbury Hall’s Colonial Room.  Her presentation is titled, “Speaking with Authority: Catherine of Siena and the Voices of Women Today.”

Professor Hilkert specializes in contemporary systematic theology with particular interest in theological anthropology, feminist theology, and theologies of preaching. She is the author of: Naming Grace: Preaching and the Sacramental Imagination (1997), Speaking with Authority: Catherine of Siena and the Voices of Women Today (2001), The Praxis of the Reign of God: An Introduction to the Theology of Edward Schillebeeckx (co-editor, 2002), and numerous articles on theology, preaching, and spirituality in both scholarly and pastoral journals.

Her present research project is a book on theological anthropology titled Grace Enfleshed: A Sacramental Anthropology. Currently the Past President of the Catholic Theological Society of America, Hilkert was awarded an honorary doctorate from Providence College in 2002 and was the Madeleva lecturer in Spirituality at St. Mary's College in 2001. She was the first recipient of Washington Theological Union's Sophia Award for Theological Excellence in Service to Ministry (1997).
