Ohio Dominican Universisty Celebrates Diversity

Students, Faculty, Staff Celebrate Diversity through programs and campus events during UNITY Week

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Ohio Dominican University’s Multicultural Affairs, International Office and Student Activities have partnered to offer the 2nd Annual Ohio Dominican UNITY Week, an initiative designed to celebrate diversity from April 14 through April 18 on ODU’s main campus, 1216 Sunbury Road.

“This year we are focusing on five main areas – identity, disabilities, religion, cultural celebration and action against oppression,” said Interim President Bishop James A. Griffin.  “This is a special time where all members of the ODU community come together to celebrate and learn about diversity.”

There will be numerous programs and events planned throughout the campus.

Monday, April 14 – “Identity”
Celebrating all the different layers of our identities that make us all unique

Tuesday, April 15 – “Disabilities”
Raising awareness about what it means to have a disability in our society

Wednesday, April 16 – “Religion” (Co-Sponsored by Campus Ministry)
Educating about the many religions that are practiced in our society

Thursday, April 17 – “Cultural Celebration”
Celebrating our unique cultures through various culture performances

Friday, April 18 – “Action Against Oppression”
A call for our community to take action on the various social justice issues facing our society today

Ohio Dominican is also honored to host the 2008 Alliance for Black Student Leadership Spring Conference on April 19 at ODU’s main campus.  This organization works together to develop, strengthen and foster student leadership among African-American students. Students from the various campuses such as Otterbein College, Capital University, Denison University, Ohio Wesleyan University and Kenyon College come together throughout the year for social events, educational programs and networking opportunities.
