Adolescent to Young Adult (AYA) and Multi-Age (PreK-12)
Licensure Teacher Education
The AYA Teacher Education Program prepares the teacher education candidate for a state
teaching license in adolescent-young adult teaching for grades 7-12 and multi-age teaching
for pre K-12. Studies include the liberal arts, a teaching major or license area and
professional education. In addition, students are provided opportunities to gain 300 or
more hours of field experiences in diverse classroom settings prior to student teaching.
It is the nature of this program to integrate theory and practice, to integrate educational
technology throughout, and to gradually induct the teacher education candidate into the
teaching profession. It is the purpose of this program to develop reflective,
problem-solving, caring teachers who have the knowledge base, the professional
competencies, and the dispositions to be effective teachers capable of meeting the needs
of diverse student populations. The program models teacher preparation guidelines of
Professional Learned Societies, the Ohio Department of Education and the National Council
for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
