Majors at Ohio Dominican
Social Work Program
Students ordinarily apply for admission to the Social Work program at the end of their sophomore year. Applicants for admission to the Social Work program are reviewed individually by the permanent Program Faculty with the final decision being made by the Program Director. Decision may include admittance, non-admittance, or provisional admittance. A provisional admittance decision may be appropriate, for example, if the student’s statement of career goals and objectives does not adequately convey interest and aptitude for Social Work. If there are problematic areas, provisional admission to the program may be granted with a specific timeframe allowed to remove any deficiencies. If at the end of that time the deficiencies are removed, full admission is granted. A student who disagrees with the faculty’s final decision is referred to the policy and procedures for Student Problem Resolution outlined in the Ohio Dominican University Student Handbook.
Students who transfer into Ohio Dominican at the junior level or above are expected to apply for admission to the program immediately. Incoming students who must apply immediately as juniors or seniors are admitted as “transfer provisional,” after completion of an interview with Program Faculty and pending successful completion of their first semester at Ohio Dominican.
All students applying to enter the Social Work program must fulfill the following requirements:
1. Earn a minimum cumulative average of 2.0.
2. Complete a statement of career goals and objectives form.
3. Complete a statement of good moral character.
4. Demonstrate appropriate professional behavior in course work.
5. Demonstrate competence in oral and written English.
6. In the case of an otherwise qualified applicant with a documented disability, the student must be able, with the provision of reasonable accommodations, to meet the academic standards for admission and participation in essential classroom and field settings.
