| Biography: |
John M. Marazita, Ph.D., an Associate Professor of Psychology, came to Ohio Dominican University in 1995 following a visiting professorship at Muskingum College. Dr. Marazita earned his B.A. from the University of Akron and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Kent State University in experimental psychology with a specialization in cognitive development. Over the course of his studies he was elected to membership in various honorary organizations including Psi Chi, Phi Sigma Alpha, and Sigma Xi and he is currently a member of the American Psychological Society as well as the Society for Research in Child Development. His research addresses metacognitive contributions to young childrens language and memory development. Over the past decade he has given conference presentations and has published a number of coauthored book chapters and articles in the journals Child Development, Developmental Psychology, Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, and the Journal of Child Language on these topics. He has also contributed reviews of manuscripts submitted for publication in various academic journals. In addition to studying young childrens development, Dr. Marazita is interested in the application of theory and research in cognitive psychology to student learning and classroom technology. At ODU he supervises undergraduate research and he serves as the psychology club advisor and advisor to The Experimentalists, a group of students interested in furthering the science of psychology. Dr. Marazita teaches child and adolescent development, adult development and aging, applied cognitive psychology, cognitive processes, a senior capstone seminar on current issues in the discipline and introduction to psychology.
