Middle Childhood Education

Degree: Bachelor of Science in Education

Ohio Dominican University’s Middle Childhood Education program prepares the teacher education candidate for a state teaching license in Middle Childhood Education for grades four through nine. Studies include the general liberal arts, a concentration in two areas of content including Language Arts/Reading, Mathematics, Science or Social Studies, and a wide range of professional education courses. In addition, students are provided opportunities to gain 200 or more hours of clinical and field-based experience in diversified Middle Childhood Education settings prior to student teaching.

The program integrates theory, practice and educational technology as the candidate is gradually inducted into the Middle Childhood Education teaching profession. It also seeks to develop reflective, problem-solving, caring teachers who have the knowledge base, professional competencies, and dispositions necessary to be effective Middle Childhood Education professionals. Ohio Dominican’s Middle Childhood Education program models teacher preparation guidelines of Professional Learned Societies, the Ohio Department of Education and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
