Services in Christ the King Chapel: Fall Semester while classes are in session

  Sundays -7:00 pm
  Monday - Friday - noon
  Wednesdays - 9:30 pm

From Your Alumni Office
As I write this message, the newest members of our ODU family are moving onto campus as the Class of 2011. New beginnings are as treasured as fond memories. May you pause to remember your first experiences on our campus and say a prayer for these men and women who occupy your former places in Erskine, Spangler, Wehrle, Sansbury, Fitzpatrick, Aquinas, Siena and Alumni Halls. They are our future alumni!

As a result of record-breaking enrollment, continued growth and 90%+ occupancy of our four dorms, construction will begin on August 30 on a new residence hall! The new $6 million, 34,000-square-foot residence hall will be comprised of three floors, with 152 beds, in a suite-style design. The new dorm, set to open Fall of 2008, will be adjacent to Fitzpatrick and Aquinas, facing Siena Hall, making a quad on the east side of Sunbury Road. Photos of construction progress will be posted in future editions of the ODU Link, and on our website!

In March of 2008, we will break ground on our new Bishop James A. Griffin Student Center. Details about that project will be published in the Fall issue of the Ohio Dominican University Magazine.

Whether your diploma reads St. Mary of the Springs, Ohio Dominican College, or Ohio Dominican University, you can be proud of your alma mater today. Beyond the exciting expansion and growth, the core of your alma mater remains: a Catholic, Dominican university, committed to contemplation of truth and sharing the fruits with others.

Lastly, it gives us great pleasure, on behalf of the 10,000+ alumni, to welcome Bishop James A. Griffin as our Interim President. Having known and worked for Bishop previously, I can personally affirm that Bishop’s faith, leadership and warmth are timely gifts during our University’s transition and certainly ones that keep us moving on our path to preeminence. Welcome, Bishop!

Have a wonderful end of summer, everyone, with a safe and happy Labor Day. Please be sure to send us a note, a photo, a phone call or a kind thought.  You are the reasons we are here.

Best regards,

Sue  & Tammy

Summertime Alumni Activities
An enjoyable evening was had by all who attended our annual Alumni Happy Hour (click here for photos) held at Barley's Brewing Company on July 19. We hope that you will be able to join us next year!

Also, several alums and their guests had fun at the August 11 Cleveland Indians game (click here for photos). Great food and raffle prizes added to the experience of watching the Tribe play the New York Yankees. Look for this event again next season!

Annual ODU School Supply Drive
Now through end of August, we are collecting school supplies to be donated to local area schools. If you are interested in participating, please drop off your donation at Guzman House. Pencils, paper, markers, tissues, scissors, glue - all would be appreciated. Thank you!

Interested in deepening your faith?  Spending time in prayer and study?  Learning about the Dominicans, their history, their call, and their commitment to the Gospel message?  Then consider the Dominican Associates, a group of women and men who are called to live the Dominican way by praying, studying, and meeting with fellow Dominicans throughout the year. Associates participate in a wide variety of activities such as prayer, study groups, retreats, trips, social justice matters, and socializing. For more information, visit

Or, contact Anita Davidson, Coordinator of Associates for the Dominican Sisters of Akron and Columbus, at (614) 416-1054 or dominican.associates@juno.com.  She has printed materials and a schedule of the discernment process for the upcoming 2007-2008 year.
