From Your Alumni Office
Despite the residuals of our record 20+ inches of snow last weekend that forced the cancellation of our second annual Breakfast with the Easter Bunny/Egg Hunt, the promise of Spring prevails on campus. In addition to our current Spring Phonathon (thank you to all who talk to our students and/or support ODU!), other tell-tale signs are evident. For instance, today I saw a young woman, eating her lunch in Panther Plaza with her just-purchased mortarboard proudly situated on her head. That image made me smile, and I hope it evokes a fond memory for you.

In the way of updates, we are pleased to tell you that the blessing and ceremonial groundbreaking of our new student center was held two weeks ago (photo, l-r: Jim Gilmour, Chair of the ODU Board of Trustees’ Physical Facilities Committee; Sr. Anne Kilbride, O.P., Prioress of the Congregation of St. Mary of the Springs and member of the Board of Trustees; ODU Interim President Bishop James A. Griffin; Monsignor Joseph Hendricks, Chairman of the ODU Board of Trustees; and Jeremiah Guappone, ODU Student Government President). You can view the construction of the center through our webcam by clicking here. In addition, the new Lynham Hall dormitory construction is advancing rapidly. Last but not least, our entire campus eagerly awaits the pending announcement of our new university president, which we will share with you as soon as it becomes known. All in all, it’s a wonderful and exciting time to be part of the Ohio Dominican family.

We hope to see many of you next month at our Spring Schmooze or Lose (details below) or at the annual Fick Brunch and Memorial Mass. We are also looking forward to our upcoming St. Mary of the Springs Reunion Weekend, June 20 – 22. Lastly, we hope that our Greater Columbus and Greater Cleveland alumni will save the dates for our Summer Send-Off family picnics: Columbus - July 22 on campus, and Cleveland - July 24 at Cuyahoga National Park. Watch for details, but please save the date to have your family join your ODU family!

For our alumni living or visiting in Florida, we invite you to check out the schedules of our softball and baseball teams’ Spring Break games in Pensacola  and/or Ormond Beach. Our student athletes appreciate your support.

As we approach Holy Week, we wish each of you and your families a blessed and very Happy Easter.

Some individuals find that they can make a larger gift to Ohio Dominican upon their death than they could have during their lifetime. If you have ever considered a bequest to ODU through your Will and need assistance with the verbiage or logistics, please contact David VanWassenhove at 614-251-4643 or vanwassd@ohiodominican.edu.
