Alumni Spotlight
Susan and
Dennis graduated together from ODC in 1974. They will
celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary in August,
2007. They met at the first freshman dance at ODC in 1970
and were married at the beginning of their junior year in
1972.
“We were
told, at that time, that we were the first married couple to
graduate together from ODC,” Susan says. “Dennis was a
Business major, and I majored in Special Education.”
Susan
continues, “It was interesting that both departments enjoyed
the leadership of two special women who were best friends:
Sister Charles Marie Brantl and Sister Melanie Hannigan. Both
Dennis and I feel the preparation and foundation we
received for success in the ‘real world’ was achieved through
the outstanding mentoring, capable faculty and relationships
we formed while at Ohio Dominican.”
Dennis was
ordained in 2004 as a deacon, and last year was named to a new
position as Director of Deacon Personnel. Several months
later, he was appointed by Archbishop Wilton Gregory as the
Chancellor for the Archdiocese of Atlanta. He continues
to be involved in their parish, St. Brigid's, and he is known
for his inspirational homilies.
Susan
serves as Assistant Principal at Blessed Trinity Catholic High
School. Also, she is the Volunteer Coordinator for a Special
Needs Program in the PSR Department at St. Brigid's Catholic
Church. In addition, she serves on several
not-for-profit boards in the greater community.
Susan and
Dennis have four children: Jennifer, Dennis Jr., Stephen, and
Kathryn, of whom they are very proud.

From
Your Alumni Office
History
was made last week when men (both of them) and women
(many) gathered in Guzman House for the very first
meeting of our new Student Alumni Association (pictured
left). It was wonderful. As I listened and observed
them, I couldn’t help but think of how many other
“firsts” you, as alumni, have experienced during your
times on our campus. We’d love to hear your stories and
see your photos. We have a serious void of pictures from
the 60s, 70s, and 80s and would love to borrow some to
scan and save for future use. Let us know if you’d like
to lend yours.
Our
schedule of alumni activities continues to grow to meet
the interests you have indicated. We welcome your
involvement with our current students on campus for
events like the Schmooze or Lose (details below) or any
of the other activities. If you’d like to participate in
student efforts in our Fall Phonathon next month
without making any phone solicitations, please
send us an email or call us at
614-251-4608.
All
of our fall sports teams are ALL enjoying winning
seasons! Check the schedules online and come support our
Panthers. And a special invitation to any alumni living
or traveling near greater Chicago on October 6, to be
our guests at a pre-game brunch and game when our
Panthers play St. Xavier University. We hope you
join us.
Our
Homecoming is next month, with grads from ’72, ’77, ’82,
’87, ’92, ’97 and ’02 celebrating reunions. Check
out all of the details and register online. I hope you
take a few minutes to browse through our website to read
about the wonderful things taking place all across our
campus.Great things are happening at
ODU.
We
look forward to hearing from you soon. Until then,
Best
regards,
Sue &
Tammy
