Double Dominicans

Don and Amy both missed the summer orientation for incoming freshmen. The day before
classes began in September of 1986, they had to take the college placement test and meet
with a faculty advisor. They both ended up at the table for undecided majors and they
began to talk.
As it turned out, the two also both ended up in Professor Hector Lavernia's Spanish
class. During the second semester in his class, Professor Lavernia suggested that they
might enjoy studying abroad in Spain.
"We jumped at the opportunity and boarded an airplane bound for Valencia, Spain.
Up to this point, we remained good friends," says Amy. "It was during our time
in Valencia and our travels throughout Europe that we realized how much we loved each
other and that we were meant to be together. When we returned to Ohio Dominican in the
fall, we both declared International Business as our majors and Spanish as our
minors."
Don and Amy were married in June, 1991 with many of their Ohio Dominican friends in
attendance. They have two beautiful daughters, Meghan and Madison.
Don says, "We are truly grateful to Ohio Dominican not only for the education
that we received, but more importantly, for bringing the two of us together."
