Honorary Degree Recipients
Donald P. McConnell serves as a Battelle Corporate Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Laboratory Operations with a responsibility for operational oversight of the four national labs managed by Battelle and its partners, as well as the contract research conducted by Battelle for the Department of Energy.
He currently serves as a senior member of the board of governors for each of the four national labs Battelle manages for the Department of Energy. He chairs the Lab Operations Board with operations oversight for all of the Battelle affiliated labs. He has primary responsibility for the integration of laboratory programs, with a special focus in energy programs and the commercial business operations of the labs. He also serves as Battelle’s Chief Technology Officer and is a member of its Corporate Investment Council.
Mr. McConnell holds bachelors and masters degrees from New York University. He is a member of the Industry Advisory Board of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Past Chair of the Committee on Accessing External technology of the Industrial Research Institute.
Active in community and church affairs in central Ohio, Mr. McConnell is currently chair of the Board of Trustees of Ohio Dominican University, having served as a Trustee since 1992. He also serves as chair of the Board of Directors for Columbus Children’s Hospital Research Institute, dedicated to translational pediatrics research. In addition, he has been an active leader at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Upper Arlington, having served on Vestry for more than ten years, including two terms as Senior Warden, the chair of the parish council.
Mr. McConnell is married to Suzanne Yorke McConnell. The McConnells have two adult children.
