You can directly influence future generations of students by making a planned gift now to Ohio Dominican. Your support will be instrumental helping Ohio Dominican have the finest faculty, facilities and students for years to come.

To assist you with your charitable intent, the following four gifting opportunities can be made as a planned gift to Ohio Dominican University:

Charitable Gift Annuity - A Charitable Annuity is a contractual agreement between yourself and Ohio Dominican University. The annuity pays you a guaranteed fixed amount every quarter of every year that you are alive. To establish an annuity, you would make a minimum $20,000 gift to ODU. The gift can be made with cash or appreciated stock (which eliminates the capital gains tax). You receive an immediate tax deduction which may be carried forward five years if necessary and Ohio Dominican pays you a fixed income for life. Upon your death, the remaining assets in the annuity are transferred to ODU's Endowment.

Charitable Trusts

  • Remainder Trust - may be established for a predetermined number of years or life, with ODU by using a $100,000 minimum gift of cash, stock or personal property. The trust is popular because the payments may be made to you during your lifetime and to your heirs or beneficiary after your death. You receive a tax deduction the year the gift is made and quarterly payments are made for the length of the trust. Ohio Dominican receives assets from the trust upon the death of the last remaining beneficary.
  • Lead Trust - Charitable Lead Trust is the opporsite of a Remainder Trust in that ODU receives the income generated from the trust immediately and up-front for apredetermined number of years. At the termination of the trust, the remaining assets are transferred back to your beneficiary. The result is an ongoing gift to ODU and you retain future interest in the asset with a tax deduction in the year the gift is made. The assets may be passed on to children or grandchildren at a discounted value.

Insurance Gifts - Insurance Gifts/Policies are an excellent planned gift in that you are able to make a substantially larger future gift to ODU at a reasonable cost today. You simply purchase a life insurance policy and name Ohio Domincian as the policy owner and beneficiary. The premium payments may be tax deductable as gifts and there is a tax deduction for the value of the policy when transferred. Ohio Dominican receives the full value of the policy upon your death.

Bequests - Bequests are established through your Will, either initially or with a codicil, when you name Ohio Dominican as beneficary of one or more assets. You are able to make a larger gift at your death than you might otherwise have been able to do while living. Typical bequests might include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • 401, 402 and IRA Plans
  • Bonds (EE and HH) & Stocks
  • Real Estate
  • Securities
  • Personal Property (Art, Jewels, Stamp and Card collections, etc.)
