Why should you go to the Write Place?

For assistance in these general areas:

  • generating ideas and selecting a thesis
  • planning and developing
  • organizing
  • improving style and clarity
  • building confidence and ease in writing

What a student should expect when seeing a writing tutor:

  • help in understanding a specific writing assignment
  • collaboration and active discussion concerning the organization, development, and coherence of writing
  • explanation of patterns of error in writing, such as punctuation mistakes
  • a primary focus on improving as a writer, and a secondary focus on creating better papers
  • a referral, if necessary, to one of the ARC professional faculty members

What should the student bring?

  • A copy of the writing assignment
  • Any background information, including research or works cited materials
  • A draft of the paper

How can YOU help us?

  • If we are busy with other students, make yourself comfortable while you wait.
  • Allow sufficient time to collaborate with us. An ideal session lasts about thirty minutes.
  • Be actively engaged and open to our suggestions.
  • If you think that we do good work, encourage other ODU students to bring their papers to us.
  • Complete an evaluation form to let us know how we are doing

Contact Vicki Lefevre at lefevrev@ohiodominican.edu or (614) 251-4510 if you have questions, comments, or concerns about the Write Place or the writing tutors.

*NOTE: As indicated in the Academic Support Services Policy Statement for the Write Place, the role of the writing tutor is to help you with the content, mechanics, and format of your essay. That help, however, does not guarantee a particular grade or instructor approval. The party responsible for the quality of any paper is the writer.
