Food For Thought
Here's some food for thought: "Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived fowards." That statement, written by Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard, rings very true for me. I landed in Philly on Saturday afternoon, had a 5 hour lay over, then flew into Columbus that night. It's been nice to see everyone--friends, family, my dog Simba (yes, I konw, like the Disney movie). But I've been doing a lot of thinking, and I think that quote helps me understand things--narrows and focuses my thoughts. I saw so much, learned even more, and have a feeling that I won't fully understand all of this till later. I'll let you in all little revelations I have throughout next semester, but as for now I'm just trying to remember everything.
Also, I told you I'd make a list of my favorite places, but I think a better one would be my favorite experiences. So here's my top ten.
- Oktoberfest: Munich, Germany
- Milan Trip, Italy
- Amsterdam, Holland
- Barcelona trip, Spain
- Island of Capri, boat ride around the island.
- Sorrento Trip, Southern Italy
- Orvieto Trip, Italy
- Ancient ruins of Pompeii, Italy
- Tuscany Trip, Italy
- Naples Food Trip, Italy
That's about right. The only thing is that on paper they're just names--cities and dates--stuck on paper. For me, though, they're aren't just places on the Travel Channel. I remember all the stories and all the people along the way. I wish I could tell you all of these, but I'd need a book. Probably the best I could do is give you another one of my favorite Kierkegaard quotes: "Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced." There it is. All I've learned in four months in Europe condensed into two quotes. Like I said before, food for thought. Well, there you go, Constant Reader, grab a napkin and a plate. And, as the Rollin Stones say, Until the next, I'll be thinkin of you. Cya!
