114 DAYS?!
Holy Cow! Only 114 Days until graduation--when you say it like that it seems a lot closer than May. It's always been the plan to graduate in May 2008, but now it's almost here. I just got home from my first meeting as part of the Senior Class Gift Committee, and a graduation countdown was the first thing listed at the top of our agenda. I can't believe it! I'm both excited and scared--I have NO idea what I'm doing after graduation ... well except that I did purchase a four day concert ticket for sometime in July. I should be attending that if the job, which I will hopefully have by then, will allow me the days off. So there's my future in a nutshell--graduate, concert.
If you used to read my blog--I'm back! So now you get to hear about my last days as a college student, and hopefully a successful job hunt. Let's get the facts out of the way. If you're reading again--I'll give you an update-- and if you're new--here's a little about me...
- I played ODU soccer for the past four years--my freshman year we were second to last in the conference and had 15 people on the team--this year we had 27 girls and began our season nationally ranked for the first time EVER. We also had the best overall record in school history 14-3-1.
- I lived on campus my freshman year and had a blast--Now I am a commuter living with a friend I met in the dorms and my brother, who FINALLY moved in a couple weeks ago after 2 years of my family working on a room for him.
- I am a Cross-Disciplinary Studies major, which means I designed it myself. I have an emphasis on Public Relations (hence that is one of my minors) and I also got a minor in Psychology, because I felt it would be beneficial to me and the work I would like to do. I would like to eventually end up working with a non-profit organization.
- I am from the Columbus area and thought ODU was the last place I wanted to be when I was looking for a college because it was so close to home. Eventually a friend convinced me to at least visit and I decided it was the school for me. I liked the people and the fact that I could have small classes and still be near a larger city (for jobs, internships, and fun stuff to do).
- I also liked the history of the school and thought it had character. I think campus looks a little sad right now because some trees were torn down for construction and the old admissions' house/original boys' dorm (in the 60s) Lynam Hall, just started being torn down :( The student center and new dorms should be amazing once they're done ... I'm going to have to visit my younger teammates and see what campus looks like in a couple years! I was lucky enough to have a new soccer practice field, stadium, weight room, and dorm my freshman year; and as much as I love college I don't want to stay in school just so I can enjoy the perks of the student center. The stone from Lynam is probably going to be used to build a huge fireplace in the new student center (you can take a virtual tour of that online http://www.ohiodominican.edu/studentcenter/default.asp ). I'm glad they found some way to incorporate it, even though it had to be torn down.

I'm still a full-time student, although I am taking a lighter course load than I have in the past so I can try to accomplish some other things before I graduate and start "real life". Classes just started yesterday--Christmas break was 5 wks. instead of 4 this year! I was ready to come back a couple of weeks ago, but when the time came to actually start I felt like I needed a few more wks. I think my classes sound interesting, especially one about Non-Profit Management because that relates the most to what I want to do. I signed up for it last year but not enough other people signed up and it had to be cancelled. None of my friends can give me a heads up as to what it'll be like since it has never been offered before. We are in unknown territory---that's normally fun.
Another class, Creative Writing, will also be unknown territory for me ... not because it has never been offered, it has--but because it is solely poetry! I like reading poetry, however, I don't write it. And on the first day of class I'm informed that we have to read some of our poetry not only to the class, but also at a gathering at the end of the year---that is open to THE WHOLE SCHOOL! I'm not sure about this, even though I don't think many people will actually come. I considered dropping the class for a about half a second ... the professor seems really nice and I like my schedule, so I kept it. Some of my teammates have already said they'd be at the final reading--not for support, of course! haha This ought to be an entertaining last semester ... I'll keep you posted!
