I'm a brother!

I am now officially a Brother of the Professional Business Fraternity Delta Sigma Pi!  We had initiation on Saturday night which completed the final phase of becoming a Brother.  We had our last event on Friday night at the Columbus Zoo at WildLights which was FREEZING but really fun.  I wrote an article for the Panther Press and it came out this past week.  The Panther Press is a new magazine from the Admissions Ambassadors (I'm one of those ambassadors, yes, I know, such an official title LOL) and I wrote about my experience with becoming a part of Delta Sigma Pi.  And here it is...

When I tell people that I am joining a fraternity, two things happen:  their eyes light up at the thought of a fraternity or actual Greek life on campus, or they step back and correct me by saying "No, you're joining a sorority.”  Well, Ohio Dominican does have Greek life and I am in the process of becoming part of a fraternity:  a co-ed Professional Business Fraternity called Delta Sigma Pi.

For the last seven weeks, my associate members and I have been putting on a variety of events and also getting to better know the Brothers.  We have put on a professional event at the CW (Originally UPN 53 and the WB, the CW combines both television stations and has a variety of shows for young adults ages 18-34), a community service project with Homeless Family Foundation, a fundraising event with Cici’s Pizza, and we are ending with a social event, Wildlights at the Zoo.

I have learned a lot through this process and I have also met a lot of great people.  This organization gives students the chance to not only network and learn more about the business environment, but also meet fellow students and form lasting friendships.  Putting on and attending these events also helps with time management skills and gives the opportunity to be a part of something on campus.

Delta Sigma Pi is not the stereotypical fraternity; we put on events around campus benefiting not only the students in the organization, but also other students majoring in Business.  Recently, we teamed up with ODU’s Career Development Center and put on a fashion show titled “Dress for Success” to help students know what to wear and what not to wear in the business world.  We had an enthusiastic crowd of over 200 students and had a raffle for 2 suits donated by our sponsor, Macy’s.

Overall, Delta Sigma Pi has been a great experience.  Meeting new students around campus, learning more about the world of business, and networking are just a few things you can get out of the Business Fraternity here at Ohio Dominican University.

Well other than Delta Sig, this week is our final week of classes...THANK GOODNESS!  Two more weeks then Winter Break where I plan to work everyday.  From Supergames, admissions, Sunny, AND hopefully a new internship!  I heard back from Limited Brands...didn't get the internship, BUT I did takeaway another chance to interview, and practice makes perfect.  ALTHOUGH, I do have another interview lined up this Friday.  Funny story...I was working in admissions one day, and our visit coordinator tells me that I need to take someone over to Erskine, so I came up and started walking him over.  He introduced himself and then he asked about me.  I told him how I'm a junior Public Relations major blah, blah, blah and he hands me his card.  He's like, here's my card, my of my good friends has her own firm, email me your information and I'll get it to her.  HOW COOL!  Networking at its finest!  So I'll let you know how this one turns out, hopefully some good news to come!

This week comes with preparing for finals, giving me LAST speech in my oral communication class (YAY), and just getting ready for the holidays.  Can't believe it's already December!

This past weekend was my friends 22nd birthday, so we celebrated in 80s style!  Here's a picture, it was a pretty funny night!
