First Place - “Louvre”

“I was trying to get a good shot of this beautiful building, but when I got home and developed my pictures I noticed the couple in the right hand corner of the picture. The man has his head lying on his girlfriend’s lap and he’s playing with her hair as she’s gazing down at him.  I thought it was amazing how it captured the romantic essence you feel while in Paris."

“This is a picture of my aunt I took during a visit home. She was a big part of my childhood and now lives alone since her husband passed away. We were talking about loneliness and how difficult life was for her in her old age when I took the picture.”

Second Place - “La Puesta del Sol en el Malecón” (Sunset on the Boardwalk)

“I was simply enjoying a sunset walk along the malecón when the picture presented itself. The sun hitting the water almost provided a path right back to it. The mountains create a perfect backdrop almost blinded out by the sun. The few people enjoy the beach give the picture life.”

Third Place - “That All May Be One”

“In August of 2005, I took a risk and went alone to World Youth Day in Köln, Germany. It proved to be a fantastic experience of the universal church as I was placed in a group of other volunteers from Germany, France, Argentina, Poland, the Philippines, and Indonesia. I took this photo at a party our group traveled to in Düsseldorf. This image is a prime example of the international community formed during World Youth Day celebrations when youth bring their unique songs and dances to come together as one.”
