Track A: Associate of Science in Business

Core Curriculum

Track A of the LEAD Program provides a thorough introduction to the basic knowledge and skills required for success in the business world. Students develop the communication skills of business writing and speaking, receive basic introductions to the language and structures of business. This program is designed to serve highly motivated students seeking a degree in business.

FIN 110 Personal Finance 4 semester credits
A course designed to aid students in developing skills necessary to deal with personal finance issues including insurance, investments, borrowing, and retirement.

BUS 100 Introduction to LEAD 2 semester credits
This is an introductory course for adult students seeking to complete an undergraduate degree. It provides the student with an overview of important concepts of self-management and an awareness of effective skills for implementation of university level study.

CIS 108 Computer Applications for Business 2 semester credits
An introduction to basic computer technology and terminology needed for the understanding and use of computer applications in business environments. Topics include input, output, file structures, and storage devices. Students will gain laboratory experience with word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.

BUS 102 Use of Technology in Business 2 semester credits
Effectively aligning and using information technology to achieve business objectives is a critical component of a successful business. This course provides an overview of the strategic, financial, organizational, and technological issues that need to be considered for the successful design and implementation of business driven information technology solutions.

ENG 110 College Writing I 4 semester credits
A course designed to furnish students with a sound understanding of the writing process, providing many opportunities for prewriting, drafting, peer editing, revision, and publication. Basic emphasis is on the clear and concise expression of ideas using various written and oral rhetorical modes.

ENG 111 College Writing II 4 semester credits
This course continues the goals of Eng 110 but adds the component of research methods, the MLA style, and computer assisted research and furthers student skills in critical thinking, argumentation, oral presentations, and reading skills.

AIS 100 Survey of Accounting 4 semester credits
The focus of this course is on understanding the meaning of the numbers presented in financial reports, their relationship to each other, and how they are used in evaluation, planning, and control.

PSY 100 Introduction to Psychology 4 semester credits
A survey course on the basic principles of psychology and their applications to human behavior and social problems. Topics include research methods, human development, gender differences, learning and cognition, psychobiology, motivation, personality, abnormal behavior, methods of treatment, and the impact of social situations on culture and behavior.

ENG 220 Professional Writing 4 semester credits
A study of and practice in the essential forms of business and technical writing, including resumes, correspondence, proposals, case studies, and formal and informal reports.

THL 107 Christian Scriptures 4 semester credits
A study of the various texts of the New Testament according to their historical, literary and theological contexts.

HUM 110 Liberal Studies I 4 semester credits
An integrated introduction to the humanities through an analytical and historical study of great works of human genius, with special focus on the ideas of faith and reason as a foundation for the Dominican intellectual tradition. This course deals with the intellectual and artistic achievements prior to the thirteenth century.

ESS 116 Food, Water & Energy 4 semester credits
This course is the survey of three critical elements of the human environment, food, water and energy. It includes human's search for the necessary and how their exploitation by the human race impacts the environment in general.

BUS 250 Legal Environment of Business 4 semester credits
A study of government regulation of business, the principal regulatory agencies, and anti trust statuses.

MTH 115 Survey of Mathematical Foundations 4 semester credits
This course places an emphasis on the importance of understanding the basic mathematical tools and quantitative reasoning skills required for analytic problem solving.

ECN 101 Introduction to Economics 4 semester credits
Survey of macro economic reasoning including the theories of national income accounting, fiscal and monetary policy formulation, and price and output determination in various competitive situations.

BUS 220 Principles of Marketing 4 semester credits
An introduction to the process of creating and fulfilling consumer and organizational needs through strategies involving the conception, pricing, promotion, and distribution of ideas, goods, and services in a market economy.

BUS 240 Mangaement 4 semester credits
A study of individual and group behavior in the organization. Topics include motivation, leadership, organizational structure, reward processes, communication, and decision making.
