Course Pages for IDS179:
The library course pages for IDS179 will help equip students with some

Goals and Outcomes:
The Library course pages for the IDS seminars are intended to help ensure
the following desired outcomes:
- ODU graduates who are equipped to manage information in the 21st
century
- ODU graduates whose critical thinking is informed by inquiry
The goals for the Library course pages for IDS179 are as follows:
1. Support student learning in preparation of specific IDS179 assignments
by providing resources to assist with certain practical concerns of
completing assignments
- Introduce resources to consult for the support of writing
- Introduce 3 strategies for reading difficult texts:
1) the use of reference resources
2) finding books for further reading and understanding of a topic
3) the use of evaluation criteria for use with any text
2. Introduce several core library resources to facilitate skill development
in the 3 strategies listed above
3. Introduce certain concepts of information literacy to support the
learning of methods in critical thinking and oral and written expression
4. Address select issues students will face in the liberal arts environment
of ODU:
- Discipline-specific resources
- Search strategies
- Resource selection
- Critical evaluation of text and information
