Welcome to the Research Tutorial KnowHow

Know How is the online interactive research tutorial of the Ohio Dominican University Library. Know How is designed to enable you to develop research skills to find and evaluate the information you need efficiently and effectively—skills you will need for your classes and for the future.

What will I learn from this tutorial?

When you have completed all of the tutorial, you will:

• Understand what research is & how to successfully research
• Understand more about search strategy so that you can search for the resources you need efficiently
• Learn the basics of using the library's online research tools—its catalogs and research databases—so that you can find the resources you need
• Be able to evaluate the information you find and formulate informed opinions, whether in class, at work, or in your personal life

How is this tutorial designed?

This tutorial is designed as a step-by-step learning process. You will explore the processes of research, learn from instructional examples, and have a chance to assess how you are doing each step of the way with questions and answers at the bottom of the pages.

There are 3 modules in this tutorial:

1. Understanding Research
2. Finding Books
3. Finding Articles

Each module is a self-contained unit; you can view the modules in any order, independent of one another. However, for best results start with module 1, especially if you are unfamiliar with academic research. Module 1 provides the context for modules 2 and 3.

Within each module, we recommend that you start with page 1 and that once you are comfortable with what you've learned on one page, proceed to the next page.
