When and How Do I Search By AUTHOR?

When:
Use an Author search when you are searching for an item and you know the name of a person or an organization responsible for authoring the item.

How:
On the ODU Library home page, View in pop-up window click on Books. Then on the next page, select Author from the drop-down menu of the ODU Library Catalog and type your words in the search box.

In the search box, type the author's last name first. Include all, part, or none of the first name.

Example:

  • atwood, margaret
  • shakespeare
  • vatican council

*Now you try! Find out what works by Shakespear the ODU Library has. On the Library home page, View in pop-up window click on Books, then select Author. Type in shakespeare. You will find a standard author entry that contains the author's name and the years he lived: Shakespeare William 1564 1616. Click on that link to find out what we have in the ODU Library by that author.

*Survivor Tip: If you aren't sure of the spelling, use a Keyword search and use OR to look for various spellings.

Example:

  • mckinnon or mackinnon
