How Do I Broaden My Topic?

You may need to broaden you topic if you find too little information. You may find too little information for various reasons:

  • Your topic is too narrow
  • Your topic is too localized to find enough information
  • Your topic is too new for many resources yet to exist

You can broaden your topic by choosing one of the following:

A Different or Larger Geographic Region
Start with a topic in: Cincinnati
Choose a larger region: Ohio, or the Midwest
A Different or Larger Population Group
Start with this group: Grove City High School students
Choose a larger group: High school students in Ohio
A Different Aspect or Event
Start with: Dorm rooms on campus
Choose a new aspect: Quality of residence life on university campuses
Start with: Impact of irrigation on a city's water supply
Choose a new aspect: Sustainable development practices within the state
