Alt-HealthWatch
Includes articles from more than 170 international peer-reviewed and professional journals, magazines, reports, proceedings, plus hundreds of pamphlets, booklets, special reports, original research and book excerpts. Focuses on perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated approaches to health care and wellness. 

 

Biological Abstracts/BIOSIS Previews
Compiles references to worldwide journal articles in biological and medical research from 5500 journals.  BIOSIS Previews also covers books and monographs. Updated semimonthly (BA) and weekly (BP).

 

CINAHL (Nursing & Allied Health)
Includes publications in the areas of nursing, biomedicine, health sciences librarianship, alternative/ complementary medicine, consumer health, and allied health disciplines.
Complete coverage of English-language nursing journals and publications, including journal articles, legal cases, clinical innovations, critical paths, drug records, research instruments and clinical trials. Coverage: 1937 to the present.

     

Electronic Journal Center
Covering many subject areas, EJC presents over 4300 research journals, including ethics journals.

 

Health Source: Consumer Edition
Provides health information on the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, childcare,

sports medicine and general health from over 190 journals, including Consumer Reports on Health and

Men's Health, and over 1,060 health-related pamphlets. 

 

History of Science, Technology, and Medicine
Citations only.  Indexes journal articles, books, proceedings, and other literature in the history of science, technology and medicine, and allied historical fields.  Updated annually.

 

MEDLINE
Provides authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, and more from over 4,600 biomedical journals.  Updated daily.

 

Philosopher's Index
Citations only.  Covers the areas of ethics, aesthetics, social philosophy, political philosophy, epistemology, and metaphysic logic as well as the philosophy of law, religion, science, history, education, and language.

 

PsycCRITIQUES
Weekly reviews of books and films published by the American Psychological Association. In addition to the latest releases, this database contains a ten-year backfile of Contemporary Psychology book reviews, browsable by author/editor, book/film title, or publication year.

 

PsycINFO
Covers journal articles, book chapters, books, dissertations, and technical reports in the field of psychology and the psychological aspects of related disciplines, including bioethics.  Updated weekly.

 

PsycINFO Historical
Provides summaries of historical journal articles, chapters, books, dissertations, and reports on psychology and related fields from 1887 to 1966.  Updated weekly.

 

Religion and Philosophy Collection
Covers such topics as world religions, religious history, epistemology, political philosophy, philosophy of language, moral philosophy and the history of philosophy from over 290 journals.

How Do You Find Out if a Periodical Exists in this Library?

 

·          Use the ODU Library Catalog to search for the title of the journal or newspaper you’re trying to find. 
Choose a TITLE search and type in the title of the journal or newspaper you desire.

 

·          The library's journals and magazines are located:
 
(1) In print in the Periodicals section on the top floor, arranged alphabetically by title
(2) Back issues in print (usually prior to 1960) in the Back Issues Room on the bottom floor
(3) In microfilm in cabinets behind the Periodicals section
 
A microfilm reader/printer (with free printing!) is also available on the top floor.
