Academic Search Complete

Covers nearly all academic areas of study - including biological and chemical sciences, computer sciences, engineering, and medical sciences. Materials include articles in scholarly journals, with option to search only peer-reviewed journals.

 

AGRICOLA
From the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Library. Includes citations of journal articles, monographs, theses, patents, software, audiovisual materials, and technical reports related to agriculture. Coverage: 1970 to the present.

 

American Chemical Society

ACS Journals provides abstracts and full text for journals and magazines from the American Chemical Society. This site is the source for older ACS journals, known as the ACS Journal Archives. Current ACS journals are available both through this site and through the OhioLINK Electronic Journal Center.

 

Biological Abstracts

Includes from most disciplines in the life sciences scholarly journal articles, meetings, review articles, books, monographs, and post-1998 patent information. “Limit” features include: Language; mo./yr; review article; article, meeting. Coverage: 1980-Present

 

Dissertation Abstracts (ProQuest Dissertations & Theses)

Covers doctoral dissertations and master's theses of authors from North American graduate schools and European universities. Provides abstracts + 24 pages of excerpts free. Copies of complete documents can be purchased.

 

Electronic Journal Center

Presents over 4300 research journals, covering numerous subject areas, including chemistry and chemical engineering.

 

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Center

Covers Masters' theses and doctoral dissertations from graduate students in participating Ohio colleges and universities. Abstracts are provided with the option of downloading complete document free.

 

Environment Complete

Covers research in applicable areas of agriculture, ecosystem ecology, energy, natural resources, marine & freshwater science, geography, pollution & waste management, environmental technology, environmental law, public policy, social impacts, urban planning, and more. Includes scholarly journals, trade publications, and conference papers of the North American Association of Environmental Education. Coverage: 1950s to the present.

 

Natural & Alternative Treatments

Evidence-based information on herbs and natural remedies and the conditions they may be used to treat, as well as known or suspected drug interactions. The guide addresses the amount and type of evidence to support use of these herbs and supplements, as well as how patients may be using them regardless of current evidence.

 

Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition
Citations only.  Indexes Articles in scholarly journals from medical disciplines, particularly nursing and allied health, and provides full-text entries from Stedman's Medical Dictionary.

 

History of Science, Technology, and Medicine

Citations only.  Focuses on the history of science, technology, and medicine, and their influence on culture. Indexes journal articles, conference proceedings, books, book reviews, and dissertations in all scientific disciplines and related fields. Coverage: 1975-.

 

MEDLINE

From the National Library of Medicine.  Covers research journal articles in the clinical sciences in Full Text. Some “Limit search results” features: Language, year, publication type (e.g., article, clinical trial), age group, animal, human, gender, and review articles.

    

PapersFirst

Citations only.  Indexes papers presented at congresses, conferences, expositions, workshops, symposia, and meetings and received at The British Library Document Supply Centre. Coverage: 1993-.

Science Citation Index Expanded (ISI Web of Science)
Citations. Indexes articles in peer-reviewed journals—complete bibliographic data, searchable author abstracts, and cited references. Coverage: 1980 to the present. How Do You Find Out if a Periodical Exists in this Library?

 

·          Use the ODU Library Catalog to search for the title of the journal or newspaper you’re trying to find. 
Choose a TITLE search and type in the title of the journal or newspaper you desire.

 

·          The library's journals and magazines are located:
 
(1) In print in the Periodicals section on the top floor, arranged alphabetically by title
(2) Back issues in print (usually prior to 1960) in the Back Issues Room on the bottom floor
