This database contains information about and reviews of all English-language standardized tests covering educational skills, personality, vocational aptitude, psychology, and related areas as included in the printed Mental Measurements Yearbooks. Please remember to click on the 'logout' link once finished.

 

Oxford Reference Online

Full-text.  Brings together 100 dictionaries and other reference books in various subjects into one searchable database. The pertinent category for this subject area would be Politics and Social Sciences. Dictionaries of psychology and the social sciences would be included in this category, which provide fairly extensive definitions.

NetLibrary

Full-text. NetLibrary eBooks are digital full-text versions of books such as reference works, scholarly monographs, literature and fiction, and 3,400 publicly-accessible titles. They are available 24/7 to “check out” that is, have exclusive access or 2 hours of “browsing” privileges.

Academic Search Complete

Contains peer-reviewed journal coverage from more than 3,400 scholarly publications.  Covers many academic areas of study, including social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, and ethnic studies.  Updated daily. 

 

Computers & Applied Sciences Complete (CASC)

Covers research and development in the areas of computing and the applied sciences disciplines, including research concerning the social and professional implications of new technology. Indexes scholarly journals, trade publications, and other sources.

 

Electronic Journal Center
Presents over 4300 research journals, covering many subject areas, including psychology. This database offers access to journal collections for browsing the journal issues and their articles.

 

Gender Studies Database
Covers research from the perspectives of men’s, women’s, feminist, homosexual, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender studies in diverse areas, e.g., athletics, psychology, political science, literary criticism, and law. Sources include popular magazines, professional journals, and other materials. Note: This database does not distinguish between scholarly and non-scholarly resources.

 

LexisNexis Academic

Offers news, business, legal, medical, and reference information.  Covers newspapers, magazines, wire services, federal and state court opinions, federal and state statutes, federal regulations, and SEC filings Updated daily.

 

PAIS International
Summarizes literature of public affairs, such as important political, economic, and social issues.  Contains references to journal articles, books, government documents, statistical directories, gray literature, research and conference reports, publications of international agencies, microfiche, Internet material, and more.  Updated monthly.

 

PsycCRITIQUES
Weekly reviews of books and films published by the American Psychological Association. In addition to the latest releases, this database contains a ten-year backfile of Contemporary Psychology book reviews, browsable by author/editor, book/film title, or publication year.

 

Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection
Covers such topics as emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry and psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational and experimental methods from over 490 peer-reviewed journals.

 

Social Sciences Citation Index (ISI Web of Science)

 Citations. Indexes articles of scholarly journals from 50 disciplines of the social sciences, with searchable author abstracts and a unique feature that enables searching of articles that cite a known author or work. Note: Not intended as a substitute for a comprehensive subject database such as SocINDEX, which comprehensively indexes journal articles, books, conference proceedings, and other documents.

 

SocINDEX

Contains information relating to the field of sociology, including articles dealing with rural & urban sociology, social development, social psychology, social structure, substance abuse, violence and many other areas of research. Journals coverage ranges from 1908 to the current year.

How Do You Find Out if a Periodical Exists in this Library?

 

·          Use the ODU Library Catalog to search for the title of the journal or newspaper you’re trying to find. 
Choose a TITLE search and type in the title of the journal or newspaper you desire.

·          The library's journals and magazines are located:
 
(1) In print in the Periodicals section on the top floor, arranged alphabetically by title
(2) Back issues in print (usually prior to 1960) in the Back Issues Room on the bottom floor
(3) In microfilm in cabinets behind the Periodicals section
 
A microfilm reader/printer (with free printing!) is also available on the top floor.
