Dr. Walter H. Kokernot joined Ohio Dominican University in 1998 as assistant professor of English. Prior to joining ODU’s faculty, Dr. Kokernot was an instructor at Louisiana State University and a post-doctoral lecturer at Texas A&M University in College Station. He has had the previous distinction of serving as chair and acting chair of the Literature and Language Division.
Dr. Kokernot earned his secondary teaching certificate in English and History, and his bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Texas in Austin; his Master of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from Saint John’s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico; his Master of Arts degree in English from the University of Texas at San Antonio; and his doctoral degree in English from Texas A&M University in College Station. Dr. Kokernot’s area of expertise is Victorian Literature.
He is a member of the undergraduate and graduate faculty, and teaches regularly in ODU’s adult education program.
Dr. Kokernot has published articles on Mark Twain and Matthew Arnold, and a translation (with a colleague at another school) of a Korean short story. In addition, he has presented papers at numerous conferences and has graded for the AP English exam and the Praxis exam.
