Biography
In my teaching, I am drawn to texts that depict vibrant environments and communities. My scholarly work focuses on representation of regional people and places in the late 19th and early 20th-century American literature. In particular, I explore how texts by writers like Mark Twain, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Willa Cather address a variety of regional communities across the nation.
I have published in Cather Studies on Cather’s novel The Professor's House, and I have had the opportunity to conduct research on Cather at the University of Nebraska and Red Cloud archives as a Woodress Visiting Fellow. My time as assistant director of Marquette University’s Writing Center significantly shaped my approach to teaching. As a student myself (and even in my writing now), I’ve learned my writing becomes better as I talk through my ideas with others. My favorite thing about being a teacher is having these same conversations with my students on their own projects.
