Kulu Mele African American Dance & Drum Ensemble to Perform at Ohio Dominican
COLUMBUS, OH – Ohio Dominican University is proud to welcome the Kulu Mele African American Dance and Drum Ensemble as part of the university’s recognition and celebration of Black History Month on Thursday, February 5 at 7:00 pm in the Matesich Theatre, on ODU’s main campus – 1216 Sunbury Road.
This free event is open to the public and features the Kulu Mele African American Dance and Drum Ensemble, the longest-lived African dance company in Philadelphia, and has developed a national reputation as a dynamic and unique performing company. Kule Mele features a blend of West African ancestral tradition and African American creativity.
The performances include music and dance of Nigeria, Ghana, Guinea, Senegal, Brazil, Haiti, Cuba, and African America, and the ensemble teaches, and performs both new and traditional works. The ensemble preserves, presents, and builds upon the dance and music of Africa, and the African Diaspora.
