ODU Announces Chaplain and Campus Minister

Columbus, OH Ohio Dominican University (ODU) is pleased to announce Fr. Thomas Blau, O.P., as University chaplain, and Sr. Margie Davis, O.P., as campus minister and coordinator of Campus Ministry. 

Fr. Thomas and Sr. Margie bring a solid Catholic foundation, strong historical background and decades of pastoral and academic experience to ODU. 

Fr. Thomas comes to ODU having spent the last four years as an associate pastor at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Columbus. He also has served as a campus minister at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, and at Providence College in Rhode Island. 

Sr. Margie comes to ODU having spent the last five years as director of Social Services at the Mohun Health Care Center in Columbus. Her experience also includes working as a team leader and case manager for the Southeast Community Mental Health Center, and serving for 11 years as vocation director for the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace, located in Columbus.  

"I look forward to getting to know the students, faculty and staff at Ohio Dominican University and, together, pursuing God's Plan for our lives,” said Fr. Thomas. 

“As an alumna, a Dominican Sister, and a former employee, I am very happy to be beginning anew at Ohio Dominican University as a campus minister,” said Sr. Margie. “As a Dominican Sister of Peace able to join the family of Ohio Dominican University, our sponsored institution gives me a sense of pride and honor.”

Thomas Blau and Sr. Margie Davis to Ohio Dominican University, and am eager for our students and entire campus community to have the unique opportunity to learn from their expansive history of pastoral and academic excellence,” said ODU President Peter Cimbolic, Ph.D. 

Fr. Thomas received his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Akron, and earned a Master of Theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville. From there, he entered the Order of Preachers and, over the course of seven years, earned a number of degrees, including a Licentiate of Sacred Theology (S.T.L.) in Moral Theology from the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C.  He was ordained to the priesthood in 1999.  

Sr. Margie earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Ohio Dominican College, now ODU, and earned her Master of Social Work from The Ohio State University. She is a member of the Dominican Sisters of Peace. 

The following priests also serve as assistant chaplains at ODU: 

  • Fr. Mike Gribble will retire July 9 after 12 years as rector of Saint Joseph Cathedral. He has served the past year as assistant chaplain and the year prior as the interim chaplain.  
  • Fr. David Sizemore has spent the past two years serving as an assistant chaplain. He also joined ODU students, faculty and staff on a service immersion trip to El Salvador in 2012. He has served as pastor of Saint John Neumann Parish in Sunbury, Ohio since 2005.
