ODU Athletes Named to Ohio College Football Preseason Team
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Six Ohio Dominican University football players were recognized August 17, 2012, by OhioCollegeFootball.com on its 2012 Preseason All-Ohio FCS/DII Teams, presented by the Ohio Army National Guard.
First team selections included seniors Eisen Hardy (Pickerington, Ohio), Eli Kovach (Eastlake, Ohio) and Tyler White (Cincinnati, Ohio) and junior Justin Bell (Columbus, Ohio). Representing ODU on the second team was senior Andrew Carpenter (Cincinnati, Ohio) and junior Nate Weeks (Marysville, Ohio).
Hardy, an Honorable Mention All-GLIAC selection last year, tied with Bell for the team lead in tackles (93) and interceptions (four). Hardy, who split time between corner and safety, was second in the conference in passes defended with 10 and had 10 or more tackles in four games. He also was a member of the GLIAC All-Academic Team and was a Second Team OhioCollegeFootball.com honoree.
Kovach also picked up Honorable Mention All-GLIAC honors in 2011 as he started all 11 games on the defensive line. One of ODU's captains, Kovach finished with 59 tackles, including 10.5 for loss, which was amongst the conference leaders. He had a season-best eight tackles (2.0 for loss) at Findlay and had 2.5 sacks in a win over Tiffin University (Tiffin, Ohio). Kovach also was selected to the All-GLIAC Academic Team.
White has been a mainstay on the ODU offensive line as he enters his fourth year as a starter for the Panthers. The left tackle garnered Second Team All-GLIAC accolades a season ago as ODU set a new school-record with 2,329 rushing yards (211.7 per game). ODU finished third in the league in scoring (31.9 points per game) and was amongst the league leaders in rushing as well.
Bell was one of the top playmakers in the GLIAC a year ago as he picked up Honorable Mention All-Conference recognition. In addition to the 93 tackles and four picks, Bell forced three fumbles and set a school single-season record by recovering four. He was named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week after notching 11 tackles and returning a fumble for a touchdown in the win against No. 22 Hillsdale College (Hillsdale, Mich.). He also had a career-best 14 tackles in the win over Lake Erie College (Painesville, Ohio).
Like White, Carpenter enters his fourth season as a starter on the Panther offensive line. The starting center, Carpenter picked up Honorable Mention All-GLIAC accolades and was a Second Team All-OhioCollegeFootball.com honoree. He has started all 31 games the past three seasons.
Weeks, a tight end/H-Back, started all 11 contests last season for ODU and, along with White and Carpenter, helped pave the path for Mike Noffsinger to set ODU's single-season and career rushing records. Weeks has played 20 games in his ODU career and scored a touchdown in the 2010 season finale against the University of Indianapolis.
