ODU Softball, Basketball Lead Division II in GPA

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Leading all of Division II in cumulative GPA, the Ohio Dominican softball team was recently named to the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top 10 All-Academic Team for the 2012-13 academic year after posting a team GPA of 3.632.

Earlier in the spring, 10 student-athletes named to the GLIAC Academic Teams. 11 Panthers were also honored with a 2011-12 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete Award.

"I couldn't be more proud of our student-athletes and the hard work they have shown," said head coach Marcella Vanlandingham. "This is a great recognition of their efforts and our staff is thrilled."

The NFCA Academic Awards program honors both collegiate and high school teams for their submitted GPAs from the 2012-13 academic year.

On July 18, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced that the ODU women's basketball program’s 3.699 GPA was the highest GPA among women’s basketball programs in the nation, across all NCAA levels.

This is the first time the Panthers have led the country in academic rating, as well as the first time leading their division. Overall, ODU has appeared on the WBCA Top 25 list four times.

"I couldn't be more proud of the work that our student-athletes have put forth in the classroom," head coach Lynsey Warren said. "They have a tremendous work ethic and this is a great recognition of their efforts. I also want to thank all of our faculty and staff members for their efforts, support and encouragement throughout the year."

Earlier this spring, the Panthers had five student-athletes named to the GLIAC Academic Teams – rising seniors Christina Pentaudi (Dayton, Ohio) and Katelyn Stuckey (Millersburg, Ohio) and rising juniors Holly Brunswick (Fort Recovery, Ohio), Kacee Hockenberry (Haviland, Ohio) and Micaela Liddane (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.).

The WBCA Academic Top 25 annually recognizes women's basketball teams across the nation in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, the NAIA, and junior/community colleges that carry the highest combined grade point averages (GPAs) inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2012-13 season is the 18th in which the WBCA has produced the honor rolls.
