Clegg, Howard Earn Academic All-American Accolades
TOWSON, Md. – Senior linebacker Dominic Clegg (Powell, Ohio) and junior left tackle Jarrod Howard (Dublin, Ohio) were named Capital One CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-Americans, the organization announced today.
Each was eligible for selection on the basis of having been named to the Academic All-District teams in early November.
Clegg carries a 3.71 GPA in math and math education at Ohio Dominican. On the season, he made 40 tackles with an interception and a pair of pass break ups.
Clegg was also named a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's Campbell Trophy, which goes to the top scholar-athletes in college football. Clegg was one of just 24 Division II student-athletes to be a semifinalist for the award. He will earn his third GLAIC Academic Excellence award this fall, is a member of ODU's President's Society and active in various community outreach programs.
Howard is in his first season as a starter on the ODU offensive line and carries a 3.80 GPA in integrated social studies education. The Panthers' left tackle, Howard has helped key ODU's offense to rank among the nation's best in rushing (234.2 yards per game, 20th), total offense (477.2 yards per game, 20th) and sacks allowed (five, second).
Ohio Dominican finished the season with a 10-1 record, won the outright GLIAC title and made its first NCAA Division II postseason appearance in school history.
