ODU Selected to Host 2017 Division II Women’s Basketball Championship
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican was selected to host the 2017 Division II Women's Basketball Elite Eight, the NCAA announced Wednesday afternoon.
Ohio Dominican was one of six finalists for the national championship and partnered with the Greater Columbus Sports Commission to submit the bid.
The Elite Eight games, culminating in the national championship game, will take place in Ohio Dominican's Alumni Hall, which was renovated in 2009 and has a seating capacity for 3,000 spectators.
"Ohio Dominican is honored to have the opportunity to host the Division II Elite Eight in 2017," said Jeff Blair, Ohio Dominican's athletic director. "This speaks volumes to the commitment our university has made to competing at a high level since making the transition to Division II just four years ago. I also want to thank the Greater Columbus Sports Commission as well for their efforts in the bid process. We are excited about our partnership and are looking forward to hosting the championship."
"This is a wonderful opportunity for us, not just as a team, but as an institution and conference," said Lynsey Warren, Ohio Dominican's head women's basketball coach. "We are thrilled to showcase the level of Division II basketball to the city of Columbus and state of Ohio. We are confident the entire community will get behind us to support this tremendous event."
